At Kenwood Preschool we encourage and nurture curiosity, creativity, confidence, and consideration. With these qualities intact, a child can be successful in almost anything he or she may undertake. We believe all children possess these qualities, and with nurturing will grow and strengthen them. Our fourth “c” consideration is an important part of a preschooler’s learning. This includes the area of social skills that we as adults take for granted and children must learn. Throughout the year your child will be helped to consider the effects of his or her actions in regard to himself/herself, the environment, and other people. The Kenwood Preschool and Daycare refrains from religious instruction or worship.
Additional goals for child care time are to provide a safe and secure environment, a place where parents can leave their children feeling confident that they will be cared for and cared about by all staff members. The emotional, intellectual, social and physical well being of the children are nurtured and respected.
At Kenwood Preschool, we believe that the real meaning of the word “preschool” is pre – school; that is, before school. There is a good deal to experience before entering kindergarten and the academic learning environment. We provide materials, equipment, projects, activities and social opportunities tailored especially for the preschool aged child. Kenwood Preschool Child Care Center can be a positive influence in shaping your child’s attitudes about school and learning. Our goal for your child is that he/she continues to blossom and grow, completing the year with a love of learning.
Our Preschool program is designed for children 3 years to 5 years old. For the younger child, having a first school experience, our goal is enhancement of self-esteem; the exploration of social relationships; the exploration of materials possible new to a child and the discovery of individuality, while at the same time, learning to become a participant in a group situation and becoming familiar with a classroom setting. Our design for the older child is to prepare him/her for the elementary school experience; strengthening his/her social skills as well as encouraging and refining self-expression and independence. The preschool daily activities find the older and younger children comfortable intermingling and learning from one another. Children choose activities according to interest and are encouraged to participate in teacher directed as well as self-chosen independent or group activities.
